Donna Maraj-Robinson, 34, & Barry Robinson, 38, married on the 17th August 2017 at the Olympic Lagoon Resort Hotel in Ayia Napa.
We didn’t we have any theme, but we did have butterflies incorporated in our wedding, and had Hot Pink & Grey as our colours.
We met on a dating site called Plenty Of Fish back in Feb 2013, I sent Barry a message and we met up a few weeks later for our first date, Barry was waiting with a bouquet of flowers, we then went on to have a few drinks and hit it off really well with each other, we became a couple the following the month after a series of dates, we have been together for 4 and half years.
Barry proposed to Donna in Cyprus while we were on holiday in 2014, he proposed at the entrance of Venus Rock, that is near Aphrodite, it was all very romantic! I had my suspicions but didn’t want to say anything in case Barry wasn’t going to propose, but was very surprised when he did, my engagement ring was a White gold pink sapphire and diamond ring, the middle stone is pink and has one diamond stone either side, it was the perfect ring as I love pink!
My dress was a beautiful Alfred Angelo India, ball gown with a sweet heart neckline, with a dropped waist and corset back, it’s a princess dress! It’s very sparkly and has amazing detail around the waist, neckline and at the back, it’s everything I wanted in a dress!
I wore a two-tier white veil which had rhinestones on with a satin edge, my tiara was beautiful and very sparkly! I also wore a necklace, earrings and a bracelet.
I had two bridesmaid, I had my daughter Mischa who’s 9 and also had my niece Ila who’s 8, they wore dresses from Ebay, they were beautiful white lace with a Hot Pink sash and a lovely butterfly brooch in the middle, they had a tiara, necklace and bracelet, and sliver very sparkly heels. My MOH was my sister in law Kate, she wore a light grey multiway dress from Debenhams, she wore a hair vine in her hair as well as necklace, earrings and a bracelet, Kate also had lovely heels on, they were a sliver with a sparkly strap.
We chose the Olympic Gardens which is part of the Olympic Lagoon Hotel, it was a beautiful venue and we knew straight away it was where we wanted to get married, we said our vows in the gardens.
The reception was in the gardens also, we wanted it back in the gardens as its quite private, we had big Mr & Mrs letters that lit up, and also fireworks on our first dance, we had a photo booth as well and a sweet table!
For my bouquet, I had Hot Pink gerberas with gypsophila, with stones in the centre of the gerberas, they were held together with grey ribbon with my memory charm on it.
For our centrepieces we had beautiful Ivory hanging cages, that had butterflies on them, we had pink candle holders and fake sliver tea lights in them, the cages were on circle mirror plates.
The favours we had were butterfly biscuits what had the guest’s names on them to doubled up as place settings, we also had candles for the woman and cigars for the men, for the children we done activity packs that were filled with lots of goodies.
Our cake was amazing! It was a two tier suitcase cake, it was exactly what we wanted, we showed them a picture of what we wanted and they did it, it was in our wedding colour theme too.
The best part of the day for me (Donna) was when I saw Barry standing waiting for me and when I said I do! But even then it didn’t seem real that it was my wedding day.
The best part for Barry was when we were going back into the Olympic Gardens for our reception and Kelsey our DJ announced us as the new Mr & Mrs Robinson and all our guest were cheering as we walked in.
My advice: Don’t stress over the little things, enjoy the planning, take the whole day in as it will go so quick, make sure you have some time just the two of you!
