Carly, 28, married Harley, 31, at the Nissi Beach Hotel, Ayia Napa on the 14th April 2014
Harley and I met 5 years ago at a 90’s reunion adult weekend at Butlins in Bognor Regis. I was with a group of my girlfriends and he was with a group of his friends. The weekend ran from Friday night until Monday and we finally spoke on the Sunday after a mutual friend introduced us. We had caught each other’s eye on the first night and a few times after that, around the resort, however [we] finally spoke on the last night after a mutual friend connected us. We then learnt that we only lived 10 minutes away from each other- it was meant to be!
Harley proposed to me on a Birthday trip to Las Vegas. He surprised me on the morning of my birthday to a trip to the iconic and very beautiful Grand Canyon. We travelled there by helicopter and after landing in the Grand Canyon itself I took the opportunity to explore and soak up the ambiance of the location. I perched myself on a rock to take some pictures and turned round to find Harley on one knee clutching an engagement box in his hand. I was very taken aback and he then asked me to marry him! I of course said yes. Everyone around us then clapped and congratulated us, it was the stuff of dreams and a birthday I will never forget.
My dress was an ivory Victoria Jayne dress (style number 17718). It was made from Tulle fabric and has a stunning embellished belt and sleeves. It is buttoned up at the back with a sweet heart bust.
Since the very beginning of our relationship we quite quickly identified one of our mutual passions and that was to travel. Being lucky enough to have a partner who joined the travel business just under a year after we met, we have managed to travel a lot during the 5 years we have been together. It is a running joke with our friends that we are always away during any given school holiday (we go away at least 4 times a year) so it seemed only fitting that we got married abroad.
The wedding venue was chosen as the grounds were simply stunning. We really wanted to get married overlooking the sea as I simply love the water and always have done since I was a small child. The reception venue blew us away and we loved the idea of our guests eating and dancing overlooking the simply stunning Nissi beach and turquoise waters. No other beach in Cyprus beats it.
Our favours were sunglasses with a message on a luggage tag that read ‘don’t be blinded by our love’. We also had coral activity boxes for the children and they had their own children’s glasses.
My cake lady cancelled on me; causing a meltdown, however it must have been fate as the new lady I found was excellent and such a lovely woman. We went and ate in her restaurant a few days after the wedding as it was only down the road and she couldn’t have made us feel more welcome.
The best part of the day was walking down the aisle for me. It was my perfect moment I had always wished for, clutching to my dad’s arm, walking towards my husband to be all welled up- waiting for me in the distance. A close second was my dance with my father, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
Those that truly care for you will make the effort to come abroad for your wedding. There is no point in stressing about it, as your day will be perfect no matter what. Don’t hold back, you only get married once, so get exactly what you want!
